Peace in the Storm: Finding Calm When Life Feels Overwhelming

Scripture

John 14:27

"Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid."

Devotional

There are seasons when everything feels unstable. Deadlines pile up. Relationships strain. The future feels unclear.

Jesus spoke these words to His disciples at a time when everything was about to change. He did not promise the absence of trouble. He promised His peace.

The peace of Christ is not fragile. It does not disappear when circumstances shift. It anchors us when the storm is loud.

Often, what disturbs our peace is not only what is happening around us, but what we are holding onto—control, expectations, comparison, or fear.

Today, instead of asking for your situation to change first, ask for His peace to settle your heart.

Peace begins internally before it manifests externally.

Prayer

Lord, steady my heart today.
When my thoughts race and my fears rise, remind me that Your peace is already available to me.
Help me release what I am gripping too tightly.
Help me rest in You. Amen.

Reflection

  • What is currently disturbing your peace?
  • What worldly thing can you let go of that might be preventing you from accessing His peace?
  • What would it look like to surrender that to God today?
